Set in the crumbling mining town of Komló in post-Communist Hungary, The Chair-maker follows Kornél Weisz, a quiet family man whose world unravels when his teenage daughter begins to act in disturbing, inexplicable ways. As strange events escalate, Kornél must confront the buried horrors of his town’s past and the supernatural force that has chosen his family as its vessel.

As András Molnár writes about the The Chair-maker in Roboraptor: "Fritsi’s descriptions are vivid, his writing is concise, to the point, and evocative, bringing us disturbingly close to the deformed monsters lurking in dark caves and dimly lit, dilapidated cellars. And of these monsters there are plenty: the horrors of The Chair Maker are twisted, rotting, foul-smelling, and insidious, excellent fare for horror.

And not least of all: they’re Hungarian. Fritsi draws inspiration from the monsters of Hungarian mining folklore. The titular chair, for instance, is not just any chair, but Luca’s Chair, one of the most well-known objects in Hungarian folklore. These choices fit organically into the totality of the book, as do the setting, characters, and everything else."
